Ep: 49 Navy Reservist Family
There is a part of the military community that sometimes goes unnoticed. Those members are known as reservists. The reserve forces can go back and forth on active duty several times, but you may have heard "two weekends a month & two weeks out of the year." The reserves are definitely an integral part of the U.S. Military, but sometimes families don't feel as a part of the military community as they should. I get one spouse's perspective on this episode.
Lana Phillips and her husband started dating at 16. They got married at 19 years old, right after he graduated from bootcamp and A school. Knowing she wanted to build a life that would be complimentary to her husband's military career, she eventually decided to go to college and become a software engineer. Since graduating in 2012, she's built websites for the likes of celebrities like Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys. She's helped build software with a company that's responsible for sending out coupons for major retailers based on customer data. And she has also spent over 2 years working for major online retailers Zappos and 6pm, which are Amazon owned companies. After working for Amazon/Zappos/6pm, she decided to build an ecommerce business for herself called AmericanPrideSpot.com. Now, she's trying to use her platform as a military spouse, and with her business that will allow her to connect with other military families and the friends, family, and awesome supporters of the military.
